Be the Change You Want to See

Between the video I showed you yesterday and this Oprah show, I am trying my best to make small changes that will inspire my children, last a lifetime, and impact the world.

If you ask anyone who knows me what I tend to do when I don't know the answer to something, you will find a loud response of "she reads books and does WAY too much research!"

Case in point, here is what I am reading right now:

Deciding to make a lifestyle change is not easy, but what I am learning is that small steps can be easy and fun.

I found this local farm co-op through a friend of mine and signed our family up. So in the near future our family will be receiving it's vegetables, eggs and some meats from a local farm using sustainable agriculture.

My wish for this change is that I continue to learn and grow, have fun with my family, and take pride in what I feed myself and my family.

A Wake-Up Call

I saw this video last week and it has haunted me ever since.

I have been stuck in my house for almost two weeks now with sick children. When I say sick, I don't just mean your run of the mill sick kids, I mean sick kids.

My three year old son has had pneumonia for the second time and my one year old daughter has had an extremely bad cough, plus a double ear infection that has become immune to antibiotics.

We have been sick, tired and plain sick of being sick and tired.

I stumbled upon this video one morning while surfing Twitter and it had a profound effect on me.

I have been wanting to make a change recently anyway, but this video electrified my soul. I need to make a change, if not for the world, for my children

Could I be contributing to my son's breathing issues by not being more conscious when purchasing and using certain household items? Could I be making more of an impact on my children's health by being more conscious of where their food is coming from and how it was handled?

The answer is YES to both of these questions.

I feel like it is my responsibility to make smart choices for my children and that fact that I have been lacking in this area and just unconsciously wandering through life makes me ill.

I want to make a change. I need to make a change...
